![]() "I
have had two very different experiences of birth, the first highly
medicalised, resulting in a ceasaren section. The second, a natural
birth with minimal intervention.
Both experiences shaped the way that I view childbirth and my passion lies with supporting other women in childbirth and in the postnatal period." |
About me
I am married with two beautiful young children. After completing a degree in contemporary dance in 2001 I began my midwifery training. Throughout the training I had my children and I began questioning many of the practices which I was routinely undertaking as a midwife. Whilst on maternity leave from university I undertook a taster course in alternative therapies. This intrigued me and soon I began to develop a passion for holistic care within the maternity services. I qualified as a midwife in 2006 after having my second child. I soon realised that my heart was not wholly in midwifery and that I wanted to add something more to womens experience of childbirth, more than I could give working in the NHS. I discovered about doulas and immediately knew that this was my vocation. I undertook a doula training course with Nurturing Birth which is recognised by the Doula UK organisation and I am currently training to become a recognised doula. I am a member of Doula Uk, the largest organisation of doulas in the UK and I have professional indemnity insurance. I further intend to qualify as a practitioner in some relevant therapies - watch this space! |
