Fear of the unknown is for many people the reason why they are afraid of childbirth. It has long been known that fear inhibits the hormones essential for the natural progress of labour. As I have been involved with many births I have a great deal of knowledge surrounding all aspects of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period and with this experience comes an overall confidence in womens ability to birth. As your support I will relieve your fears which will ultimately make your experience a truly positive one. My doula services are as follows:-

 Labour Doula
           pregnancypregnancypregnancy
I normally like to meet face to face with you and your partner to discuss what you want from a doula, what your past experiences are and what you want from your birth.
I will support you in making a birth plan and discuss any queries you have about your care. I will discuss a number of support mechanisms for labour in order to discover which type of support would be helpful to you as some people respond differently to touch, massage and holding etc.
I will provide information for you on routine practices or interventions using up to date evidence and if you have any queries during your pregnancy I will seek out relevant information in order to give you an informed choice on your care.
I will guarantee that I will be present for both you and your partner throughout you whole labour, however long it lasts.
After the birth I will be available for any questions and will visit you at your convenience to discuss the birth and help you with any problems or jobs around the home.

Postnatal Doula

I can be employed on a purely postnatal basis. For this it would be beneficial to begin with a meeting to discuss what would be required within your family. I can offer support in many aspects of postnatal support including:-
¤ Allowing mothers to rest
¤ Offering breastfeeding support
¤ Listening
¤ Caring for the new baby
breastfeeding
¤ Helping out with older children
¤ Food shopping
¤ Ironing, washing, cooking

¤ Dog walking

This list is not exhaustive, I will be happy to discuss any other requirements.
